Jimmy fixed it for us !
A couple of weeks ago we got in touch with Sir Jimmy Savile's Personal Assistant, Mavis Price, and inquired if it would be possible for Jimmy to endorse the Christmas CD 'Friendly Dragon at Christmas'. If you have visited other parts of our website, you will be aware that the proceeds of this record are being kindly donated to Skillshop by the co-owner of The Friendly Dragon shop Mr Jon Hoyle, who is also the composer of the song.
We were delighted when Sir Jimmy agreed to meet us. So on Wednesday 17th September 2008 a group of clients, staff and volunteers left Skillshop for a 12.30 p.m. appointment with the man himself. We were also accompanied by Jon Hoyle, Kevin Fitzpatrick, the vocalist, and a very friendly dragon.
Sir Jimmy turned up bang on time which is more than can be said for any of the media. We spent a lovely couple of hours in the company of JS and got some excellent publicity photos.
newly refurbished Lakeside Cafe and SirJimmy had a surprise for us up his sleeve. He gave us an IOU for £250 which he said his PA would post on to us. What a man !
When it was time to leave Jimmy walked with us to the car park and wished us all a safe journey home. We left feeling we had met a very special individual indeed.
